OFF THE GRID

I'll be vanishing into an Internet-free  Zone for the next few weeks, which means I won't be posting—or checking comments—here at Creation Point.  But, if you're so inclined, feel free to leave a comment and I'll catch up with all of you when I return.   Have a great couple of weeks.

  2. I just read your Captain America, Defenders, and Marvel Team-Up runs as if they were all chapters of a single novel. I had a great time. So many connections, crossovers or no. Did you plot in advance or was that totally on the fly?

    1. I still have some of this left to round up, but I've read a lot of the Professor Power stuff so far, which you're referencing. Starting with Claremont, then talking to DAK, I notice how writers love to work with the same characters repeatedly across years of titles, to create a sub-continuity. It would've been elegant as a plan, but it also makes a lot of sense, doesn't it, to tap these familiar elements when writing at deadline speed! Cool question.

  3. Are we allowed to ask questions about your brillient work on the Justice League animation here?
    It just a small one!

  4. It's been a long time since I wrote those stories, Kelly; but, as I recall, much of it was very much on-the-fly. Racing deadlines, surrendering to the stories and doing my best to let them tell themselves. That's not to say that I didn't put a lot of thought into them, just that there was an equal amount of spontaneity.

Thanks for checking in. All the best -- JMD

  6. Greetings! I finally obtained a copy of Man-Thing #7 from the 3rd series (1990s), which completes that run (1-8) for me. I wanted to stop by and tell you how grateful I am to read such creative writing and look at such dazzling, innovative artwork (Liam Sharp). As far as this Man-Thing collector is concerned, you guys hit a home run with that series. God bless!

  7. Thanks for the kind words, Mike. I loved working with Liam on that series and have often wondered where the road would have taken us had we been allowed to continue. We were just hitting our stride when they pulled the plug.

  8. Given your history with the storyline, will you be penning the "Emperor Joker" ep for Batman: Brave and the Bold?

  9. I heard that Marvel is going to publish various Crossgen properties, does this mean there's a chance for Abadazad to get a second revival?

  10. Didn't even know there WAS one, David! Which proves that I'm still off the grid. (But I'll be back on soon.)

  13. It immediately brought to mind the quote George Harrison used on his Somewhere in England album in tribute to John Lennon: Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be. (Bhagavad-gita 2.12)

Thanks for the article link. I recently read one of Lanza's books and found it very interesting.
