If things have been quiet here at Creation Point lately it's because I've been quiet. It's good to periodically put work and the world behind and remember that Who We Are and What We Do aren't the same thing...and that's exactly what I've been up to. Once I'm fully recharged and revitalized, I'll be back and posting away.
Hope you're all enjoying these final days of summer.
You know, summer does still have roughly a month left.ReplyDelete
Not in my universe! : )ReplyDelete
Really? When do you have your Equinox?Delete
Besides, maybe Summer is like CHristmas... a state of mind that can stay with you all year if you choose. That's a little hippie-ish for me, but it sounds right up your alley.
By the way, I read the New Jim Starlin Thanos Graphic Novel. Still very Starlin. Worth the read, and something else very cool. It came out just before Guardians of the Galaxy, and this GN could never be a movie (at least with wide appeal), it is always nice when someone keeps comics unique to comics. Point is that it is worth any Starlin fans time.
Wait, wait, summer ENDS? Texas didn't get the memo. :)ReplyDelete
Summer ends when my vacation ends and my daughter goes back to school. So it's just about over now!Delete
Very happy Starlin is getting the recognition he deserves because of GotG.
As you know, I'm a big fan.
by the by, the new JLD reminded me of Green Lantern: WillworldDelete
at least the Deadman parts.
Starlin was recognized in the credits and I think it was for specific creations. But don't quote me. (I've still got vacation brain.)Delete
Someone else who deserves major GUARDIANS recognition is my old buddy Giffen—who was the first person to bring that particular group of characters together.
The video was great. Thanks for sharing that. (One of my favorite Beatles songs!)
Not sure if a similar post got lost, but I should point out that I wasn't being literal about summer, JMD! Here in Texas we joke about the four seasons: almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.Delete
Speaking of the Beatles, I have a confession to make: I prefer Elton John's cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" to the original. But that's an exception to the rule!Delete
Sorry about the confusion, David...and sorry about not posting the wonderful SAVIOR 28 analysis, Jack. I've been keeping up with this blog on the road and things have been lost along the way.Delete
I'm home now and, I hope, things will get a little more coherent from here on out!
Given that John Lennon played on Elton's version, David—I forgive you!Delete
Thanks, JMD--I feel as though a great weight has been lifted!Delete
One last question and then I'll leave you alone. Are you a fan of The Cranberries? They have a song devoted specifically to John Lennon's assassination, so I assume his solo work was a big influence, but I'm not informed enough to say whether that's so or not...anyway, I've always enjoyed their work.
I only have vague memories of the Cranberries, David. Irish band, right?Delete
With a female lead singer?
I'll seek out the Lennon song. Thanks for the tip!
Yep, your memory is correct. Their most popular songs were "Linger" and "Zombie," but I love almost everything they've ever done. The song in question is called "I Just Shot John Lennon," from their third album TO THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED, and it's haunting to say the least. I also recommend "Ode to My Family" and "Ridiculous Thoughts."Delete
But honestly, I recommend pretty much everything by them!
Let me know what you think!Delete
Found a clip of the Lennon song and thought it was very strong and heartfelt.Delete
Glad you enjoyed it! If I can point anyone to the Cranberries, I consider it a productive day.Delete
Dear Sir JM DeMatteis, my name is Daniel Oliveira and am a huge Brazilian fan of your work. Over the years I was charmed with his art, particularly in DC in the 1980s with the Justice League, and then Doctor Fate and several works on Batman. Blood was the work that opened my eyes beyond the comics superheroes. I apologize for the linguistic errors, I in this text translator, but wanted to make these words came to you. Thanks for everything! Best regards!ReplyDelete
Thank you, Daniel. Don't worry about the linguistic errors, your message got through loud and clear and I deeply appreciate it! All the very best...JMDDelete
You have to take it easy sometimes, completely understandable. My daughter just had twin girls so I am currently in that whirlwind of a madhouse. Enjoy your time off!ReplyDelete
Thanks! And congrats on the new grandchildren!Delete
Just waiting for the recharge...ReplyDelete
All recharged, Rick—but I've got to catch up on some work before I can hit the blogosphere!Delete
Well, I'm glad that my source was wrong about Starlin getting credit.ReplyDelete
I'm also glad you enjoyed my views on Savior 28 were well received. I meant every word.
And glad you enjoyed the video. It is a pretty interesting cover.
Finally, after a mild summer we in Detroit are just starting to get the more summer like weather now. I'm sure it will snow again in a week... Though God knows I'm okay with keeping it warm for a long while.
Fall is my favorite season here in upstate New York, so I'm looking forward to the end of summer weather (which, overall, has been pretty mild this year) and the beginning of a crisp, invigorating autumn. Winter, on the other hand, I'm NOT looking forward to. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be better than the unrelenting blast we had last year.Delete
