BATMAN-GERBER DAY!

Happy Batman Day to all who celebrate! My first Batman story was (no kidding!) a coloring book. My most recent work is an episode of Amazon Prime's Caped Crusader for the upcoming second season. And I look forward to more adventures with the Dark Knight in the future. (If you want to take a deep dive into my history with Bruce Wayne, read this.)

And while I have your attention: Let's also celebrate the birthday of the great Steve Gerber. As I've said here before, I wouldn't be the writer I am today if I'd never encountered Gerber's work. Every Gerber story I read was evidence that mainstream comics could be so much more than I’d ever imagined. That there was no creative door that couldn’t be kicked in, no creative wall that couldn’t be torn down. His voice is sorely missed.

  1. Speaking of Batman, Mr DeMatteis, have you read the new crossover between Deadpool and Batman?

The main story has not been really epic, considering how Deadpool's stupidity tends to turn situations, but all the others were really good to read.

My personal favorite was the one between Captain America and Wonder Woman. Honestly, I think these two could become a very iconic couple in the world of comics, considering how much they represent on each of their worlds.

    1. Haven't read it. Re: Cap and Wonder Woman—the Batman of the Justice League Unlimited universe might have a thing or two to say about that! ; )

    2. I always thought Wonder Woman would be a good match for Ben Grimm. I think she would appreciate his down to earth working class charm, plus they can both bond over beig (essentially) living pottery.

    3. I don;t know, walking around as a rock monster year in and year out, unable to do the thongs you loved...fly a plane, play football, eat dinner at local Italian resturaut... that will make a man's character pretty strong.

  2. Yeah, I know the Justice League Unlimited's series (R.I.P., Kevin Conroy), but I'm talking about the main Captain America and the main Wonder Woman of their respective main comics.

Besides, I believe Dianah would find this Steve more attractive than her classic Steve (Trevor).

    1. Well, it's all fiction and it can play out a million ways!

    2. Yeah, just like any Multiverse's story, like Spider-Man's. ANYTHING is possible somewhere in the multiverse.

  3. There is some chance that your visions for the Marvel and DC universe will return, like Scarier, Lords of Shamballa and Divine Creator.

    1. It's always possible...but, at the moment, not probable.

  4. Speakig of Gerber, I aske you a bit ago for a list of the runs you always wanted to read but could not, books form teh big two written by established creators that never got the chance.

At teh time you said you neeeded time to think on the top 9 list, so this seems like as good a timas any to check in... especially since it made me remeber.

Also, IDW is bringing back Twilight Zone comics, seemingly one-and-dones qith a differnt creative tam each issue. Any cahnce you will throw your hat in the ring?

    1. Still don't have a list, Jack. Sorry! Interesting news about the Twilight Zone comics, but I'm putting my TZ energy into my books these days. Both The Excavator and the Witness had big TZ vibes, and so does my upcoming novel, Dark Future.

    2. I picked up teh first issue of teh new series yesterday, still have not had a chance to read it, but noticed something interesting. The book is in black and white, which is a nice touch, I think.

That having been said, regardles of medium, Twilight Zone revivals don;t usually have the best odds of success.

As for teh list, I understand things come iup JUst have it onmy desk my 7 pm tomorrow.

    3. Black and white? Nice touch!

As for the list: I sent it to you yesterday via pigeon. Didn't you get it?

    4. I don;t think so Dematteis, I know Sean Pigeon. If a comic creator asked him to do a task he not only would do it,but be incredibly excited to do it.

Thee kind of wild stories will not help come performance review time.
