GRAPHIC NYC

Here's a link to an especially insightful review of The Life and Times of Savior 28, courtesy of one of the best comics-related websites out there, Graphic NYC.  While you're visiting, you might want to browse their amazing library of profiles of comics creators.  You'll find everyone from Joe Simon to Harvey Pekar, Neal Adams to Dean Haspiel.  It's a genuine treasure trove of comic book history.  Be prepared to spend some time at GNYC—because once you start reading those profiles, you won't want to stop.

  1. Thanks for linking that website. The review was well-written. I don't know why, but I enjoy reading reviews of books I have already read. I am not so fond of reading reviews of books I haven't read. I like to see what others saw that I didn't. I like to see how a book is interpreted differently by different people.

  2. Very nice review. This website makes me jealous of all you New Yorkers.

  3. I'm pretty much a review junkie myself, Quigue (forgive me for not remembering your name! I went all through the back posts trying to find it, but couldn't), as long as they're intelligent and compassionate. I'm not fond of cynical and dismissive writing. I've even enjoyed negative reviews of my own work (well, maybe "enjoy" is the wrong word!) when they're well-thought out and respectful.

  4. There's a lot to be said for the energy, creativity and lunacy of NYC, Nicholas. (Not to mention the incredible food.) I grew up there -- I still enjoy going back -- but I'm also glad I now live in a mellower environment.

  5. My name is Enrique. Quique is the standard nickname for my name in Spanish speaking countries (I am from México). I appreciate you going through back posts to find my name.
Sometimes I like to read negative reviews to understand why someone disliked something I liked.

  6. Thanks, Enrique! I'll try not to forget next time.
But at least now I know that, if I just call you Quigue I won't be wrong!

  9. I really enjoyed this review of SAVIOR 28. The greatest praise a work can receive, in my opinion, is that it makes its readers better people. And I share in that sentiment about your work. It is truly something that challenges and encourages me.

Incidentally, I heard an academic yesterday who said that warfare has been in steady decline for the past 20 years overall. He suggested that globalization has moved national concerns from the battlefield to the marketplace. Will be interesting to see where globalization leads us (the internet allows us to meet so many people across the world). But I do believe that the world is a much better place in 2010 than it's ever been, and continues to improve.

  10. Thanks for sharing that, David. We get so much negativity, illusion and just plain delusion via the CNN Reality -- as I like to call it -- and it often conflicts with what's really happening beneath the skin of the world. I think our job is to ignore the fear-mongering and hold on to a positive vision of the world. The more we believe it, the more it will manifest.
