DETOX

Just finished a post-election detox with two days off social media and a twenty-four hour news fast. A powerful way to remember that there is a truer, deeper reality than the one the media feeds us on a daily basis. There is something far more beautiful, and far more transformative, hidden beneath the skin of the world; and, by grounding ourselves in that deeper reality, we are better equipped to deal with the dance of illusion that we so often take to be reality.
I need to make this part of my regular regime.

    1. Hey, Jeff! Good to hear from you!

I saw DOCTOR STRANGE at a preview a few weeks ago. The director's love for, and understanding, of the character and his world saturated every frame. And those visuals!

      What did you think?

  2. As perfect a Marvel movie as I could ever want. Nice Shamballah shout out!

  3. Yes, I loved the Shamballa shout-out. (I wouldn't mind see it as the story ending that drives the next movie, either!)

  4. It's hard to believe we ever lived in a day and age where we weren't constantly 'plugged in.' There are many benefits to social media, not the least of which is getting to chat with creators from worlds away. But there is also something to the idea of processing the news at the day's beginning and end, rather than getting swept up in it from moment to moment.

The internet, like fire, is an excellent tool but a poor master.

True connectivity only comes when we can look within and without--when either is out of balance, we must strive to find harmony again.

That's my long-winded way of saying I think it's wise to fast from social media and the news cycle for at least a day or two a week--though easier said than done!

    1. Beautifully said, David.

I'm seeing that it's impossible to do a news fast unless social media goes with it, since my social media feeds are stuffed-to-bursting with politics. It's all got to go if I'm going to find some inner quiet!

  5. I modified my Facebook so that yesterday the only political post I got was yours J.M. :) It was nice. I don't engage in any other social media and I tend to miss the news regularly because I don't have cable TV.

    1. I'm on another news fast today, so I'm staying away from Facebook and my Twitter feed. Got to keep the head clear and the heart clean!
