COMING UP

Some fun projects coming up this summer from Marvel, starting with the Rocket Racoon 50th anniversary anthology, Rocket Rewind. I've contributed a story, illustrated by my brilliant buddy Shawn McManus, that both pays tribute to, and actually interacts with, the character's 1970s origin tale by Bill Mantlo and the late, great Keith Giffen. The book goes to sale July 31st.

On sale the same day is What If? Spider-Man—which asks the question: "What if Kraven survived his last hunt?" (I vaguely remember that old Kraven tale, but I don''t recall who wrote it.) The art, by Yildiray Cinar, knocked my proverbial socks off—and I suspect you'll have a similar reaction. This one-shot is part of Marvel's celebration of 50 years of What If?

And finally, on sale in August, is a celebration (yes, another one!) of one of Marvel's greatest characters, Mary Jane Watson, who debuted in Amazing Spider-Man 60 years ago.  Mary Jane—Face it, Tiger features a story of mine, beautifully illustrated by Andrea Broccardo, that looks back at a pivotal moment for MJ, inspired by a story from my second Spectacular Spider-Man run.

Collect 'em all! (If you're so inclined!)

  1. I also noticed that the J book has a story by Ann Nocenti, so naturally I assume that you two came up with the book while discussing how great I am, and she was asking for more information about the interactions on here you had with me for the cult she is starting, since we only spoke at the one show.

Most likely she mentioned how she told me about the pot investors she talked to the night before meeting me, and was reminded that back int he 70s marijuana was called :Mary Jane" and well... here we are.

It is the only logical conclusion one could come to.

  2. Hey Sir, Felipe again. Sorry for interrupting, but I wanted to ask a few things I’ve been curious about regarding your stories:

    1. Will this MJ story involve her relationship with Peter? It’s been a really long time since they’ve been separated in Earth-616, and I’d genuinely love to see them together again.

    2. In your stories, was Oblivion portrayed as an infinite ocean of darkness and void beyond the dreams and beliefs of mankind, as well as beyond the illusions of Maya,Universes,Multiverses and Beyond, the Well Beyond Worlds, Shamballa/Golden Age, and the rest of the Divine Dream of the Creator? I was reading your stories and started noticing those elements, which led me to interpret it that way. (Sorry if this is too long sir)

    3. In your stories, is the Well Beyond Worlds still within the illusions of Maya, or does it exist in a true reality beyond them? That part left me a little confused.

    4. In the Doctor Strange story, was that truly Chthon himself? I mean, not a version distorted by humanity’s perception or belief, but the actual Chthon without merely manifesting through something else. As a true believer and longtime Marvel reader, I always interpreted it as the real Chthon.

Sorry if this is bothering you, I didn't mean to do this.

    1. Hi, Felipe. Some answers:

      1) Yes, Peter and Mary Jane in their married days.

      2) Oblivion is the void before (and after) Creation. The Nothing that exists before (and after) the Everything. That's the best I can explain it.

      3) I have no idea what the Well Beyond Worlds is.

      4) If you're talking about my final issue of the Doc Strange monthly, my memory is that it was indeed Chthon.

    2. Thanks sir!

Sorry about the third one, I ended up confusing part of another author's work, and it was kind of an explanation of where all the magic comes from. The art was similar to the stories and concepts you presented. It was my mistake to cite it here; I should have checked again.

Also about MJ and Peter, that's amazing! I'll be eagerly waiting to buy this story. ❤️

    3. How did feel to return to the “Kraven Last Hunt’ arc and take it in a different direction?

    4. I was reluctant at first—but then a strong idea just erupted from my unconscious and I became excited about the project. My excitement doubled when I saw Yildiray Cinar's incredible artwork. I think (hope!) you're going to like this one.
