Here's some Silence Day music from my album "How Many Lifetimes?" The first song was inspired by one of Avatar Meher Baba's favorite quotes—from the great Persian poet Hafiz—the second by a prayer written by Baba.
Fortunate slave is a great tune on the album (which I bought a couple years ago)...but my favorite is Baba Rain. I have the album in my regular rotation. Nice piece of work, JM.
What I like about the album is that you can play it from start to finish without having to skip any tracks. My favorite song on the album is "Diane" (also my wife's name).
Sorry, I posted this comment yesterday but I think I forgot to click that I wasn't a "Robot".
I have, and I must confess that I preferred the movie. I hate confessing that to anyone (let alone a writer) but in most cases, when I read a book and see the movie it's based on, I typically prefer the movie.
I did read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". I didn't like it. I have added "Ubik" to my wish list. I plan on picking it up in August (once my credit card statement closes) and I'll let you know what I think. Here's a list of books where I thought the Movie was better than the source book: 1) Blade Runner 2) Open Range 3) I Am Legend (I know you love Richard Matheson, sorry) 4) Lord of the Rings (all three) 5) The Princess Bride 6) The Wizard of Oz 7) A.I. 8) Psycho 9) Rebecca
Here's a list where I thought the book was better than the movie: 1) The Neverending Story 2) The Hobbit 3) The Last Unicorn
So, for me, the movie is typically better than the book, but not always. I know I'm in the extreme minority with that thinking, but it's just what I like.
I do love Matheson but I've never read I AM LEGEND. OZ the movie and OZ the book are two different worlds and I love them both equally. (As you probably know, the OZ books are among my favorite books ever.) PRINCESS BRIDE is a hard call, but I'd probably come out in favor of the movie (and, hey, they're both written by the William Goldman so it's okay). BLADE RUNNER? I'll go with the book. (PKD is a literary god to me.) LORD OF THE RINGS. Books, definitely.
Never realized that A.I. was based on a book. I'll have to seek it out. The movie was highly imperfect, in many ways, and I totally loved it. (In fact just talking about it makes me want to see it again.) I tend to like Spielberg when he's a little out of control. Terrific film.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Dan. Making that album was one of the major creative high points of my life. It was pure joy. So glad you enjoy the music!

Thanks, George. My wife is kind of fond of "Diane," too. : )
DeleteRe: the robot problem. Next time, be sure to click "android life form" and you shouldn't have any problem.
"android life form" makes me thing of Blade Runner. That may be my all-time favorite movie.
ReplyDeleteHave you read the PKD novel that it's based on?

ReplyDeleteI won't tell. But if you haven't read any PKD, go out and buy a copy of UBIK immediately!
DeleteAh, UBIK. My personal favorite.
DeleteMine, too. (Obviously!) I've read it three or four times over the years and its place at the top of the PKD Tower of Cosmic Weirdness never falters.

I'll stop now. This could go on all night!
