If you missed my episode of Ben 10 last night, you can watch the first part below (and when that's done, you should be able to click on over to part two). I'm very happy with the way the show turned out—but I wouldn't expect anything less from a series overseen by the extraordinarily talented, and sorely missed, Dwayne McDuffie. Don't know how long this link will remain active, so get it while you can.
Fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd so are you, Frayda!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you would be writing Ben 10 episodes. I actually thought the word "burn" was funny in this episode. I'm also glad that modern day cartoons are allowed to use the word "kill" and other death related words unlike older cartoons.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that all Ben 10 fans should also watch Green Lantern the Animated Series when it comes out.
I'm really looking forward to the Green Lantern series, Nelson. And glad you enjoyed the Ben 10!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of "get it while you can," Amazon now has KRAVEN'S LAST HUNT in TPB at a bargain price:

Thanks for pointing that out, David!
ReplyDeleteMy newest blog might interest fans of Ben Reilly and the Scarlet Spider:

Best,

Another good one, David!
ReplyDeleteDid you get a chance to see the two Batman: The Brave and The Bold episodes "Crisis: 22,300 Miles Above Earth!" featuring the JLI and JSA and "Four Star Spectacular!" that had a part with the Creature Commandos?
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen them, Yojimbo, but I'll search them out online today. Creature Commandos? Really?
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with the Creature Commandoes, but the episode in question was pretty cool. You also get Flash, Adam Strange, and 'Mazing Man.
ReplyDeleteBut the JLI/JSA teamup was the best! I could not stop laughing. I now really want to see an Aquaman/Spectre teamup!

CREATURE COMMANDOS was a series I created for WEIRD WAR TALES around the same time I cooked up I..VAMPIRE, David.
ReplyDeleteYouTube here I come!
Very cool! Wow, with I, VAMPIRE going strong in the DCNU, a lot of your earliest work is coming back to the forefront this year. DC has a series that isn't Creature Commandoes, but it's something in that vein: FRANKENSTEIN AND THE AGENTS OF S.H.A.D.E. I haven't read it yet, but it will be crossing over with OMAC soon, so I will when that happens.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, comixology doesn't seem to have WEIRD WAR TALES backup issues yet. But I'm sure they will eventually.
And congrats on your Imagination 101 workshop. I'm not at all surprised by the good buzz it's getting online. Looking forward to that national tour! :)

We had folks coming from all over, David -- Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan -- so maybe we can tempt you to come to the next one we have in Kingston!
ReplyDeleteI've also got one scheduled for the spring in Massachusetts which I'll be announcing later in the year.
I think you'd be a valuable addition to the class!
Georgia? That's awesome, JMD!
ReplyDeleteConsider me more than tempted! I've got family in Fort Drum now, so maybe I could plan a trip to New York around your workshop.

That would be great, David. I'd love to have you there!
ReplyDeleteRaved about the Workshop to the comic shop owner in Manchester NH- he will help promote the MA class in his store when it gets closer to the date.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeff: You're a good man (but I already knew that)!
ReplyDeleteYou bet, Mr. DeMatteis. The original team and an adaptation of a Creature Commandos story from Weird War Tales. ;)
ReplyDelete"Four Star Spectacular!" was split up into 4 stories and the Commandos were in the final part of the episode. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Tried to track the episode down yesterday, Yojimbo, but couldn't find it. I'll keep looking!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had difficulty finding it. I suspect users on YouTube had to get clever with titles to avoid the wrath of Warner Bros' lawyers.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJx_f3FUjJQ
That was great, Yojimbo: THANKS!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I noticed a few fans had a hard time with Lt. Shrieve's attitude and use of the word "freaks" toward the Commandos...though that probably means they didn't grow up in the era, what's the best way to explain the Commandos to them?
ReplyDeleteWell, the premise was simple, Yojimbo. I was writing for a book called WEIRD WAR TALES: what would be more natural than the idea of a government-created team of monsters fighting World War 2? As for Shrieve's attitude, he was the typical "gruff on the outside" soldier. Calling them "freaks" was part put-down/part-endearment!
ReplyDeleteAt least that's the way I remember it three decades later!
Thanks for the insight. The premise reminds me of the Doom Patrol as well, another team of hard luck heroes.
ReplyDeleteYou're right,Yojimbo. Imagine the possibilities of a Batman-Doom Patrol-Creature Commandos team-up if BRAVE AND THE BOLD was still in production!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the show surviving as shorts on the upcoming DC Nation block and/or a spin off like JLI or "Superman: DC Presents" to coincide with the next Superman movie in 2013 (since the Powers That Be seem to be keen on that type of synergy aside from Young Justice) and of course, bring in the JLI occasionally as guest stars.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, Yojimbo. Guess we'll have to wait and see what the Powers That Be decide. Unless, of course, we can get you an executive position at WB Animation! : )
ReplyDeleteSam Register and co. have done a great job these past few years of course but hey, if you can put in a good word for me...a guy can dream. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that I love the shows that you do. Whether it is Ben 10, Brave and the bold, or Justice League. Your episodes always are my favorite
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. It's been an incredible pleasure writing for these shows and the fact that they've been well-received is just the icing on the cake!
