WONDERCONSTANTINE

Back from a short, exhausting—and very gratifying—two days at WonderCon, where we premiered the first five episodes of Constantine: City of Demons. Thanks to Team Constantine, and all the fans, for a memorable experience.
You can watch the first five episodes on CW Seed right here. But this is just the beginning: There are seven more episodes to come (and a DVD release with twenty more minutes of story).
Below are some photos of the panel I did with Matt Ryan and the CW Seed's Peter Girardi (I should have more later in the week) and the first of several video interviews.  Enjoy!

  1. Hey there! Just wanted to drop a quick comment telling you how much I've enjoyed your Constantine adaptation, and that I'm looking forward to the rest of it. I hope you get to do more with this character in the future!

    1. Thanks so much! And, yes, I would love to do more Constantine. I hope that comes to pass.

There are seven more episodes to go to complete the current story but, before the final seven hit CW Seed, there will be a full-length DVD movie of CITY OF DEMONS (with 20 more minutes of story). So you can actually get the whole story, and more, before the last episodes stream.

Thanks for checking in. And feel free to let me know what you think of the rest once it's out in the world!

  2. You must watch the new episode of Supernatural: Scoobynatural. It is probably the best cross over I have ever seen.

  3. You really like to make the Lennon comparison, Dematteis.

In fact I think you may have first said it here, when I asked you about taking over JLD.

But, in Constantine's defense. he never hit Epiphany, when they were married.

Also, e turned into a werewolf. No member of the Beatles (obviously excluding Pete Best) ever did that.

    1. Constantine was married? (It's true, I'm no expert.)

Actually, Lennon never hit Cynthia when they were married. It was when they were teenagers, courting. She told him if he ever did it again she'd leave him...and he never did. Thus the lines: "I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved/man I was mean but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best that I can..."

He spoke about his violence in a very heartfelt, and repentive, way in one of his final interviews. He was deeply ashamed of it.

Didn't expect a long answer to that, did you?

    2. Yes John was married. To a woman named Epiphany, who was born in 1986, making her his junior by 33 years.

      Man's got game.

You can learn more about her here:
      http://hellblazer.wikia.com/wiki/Epiphany_Greaves

It is a little out of date, because they were still together when the series ended.

Yes it was true, it happened in the last run of Hellblazer. Which is unfortunate, because I thought it was a pretty good run (by Peter Milligan if you are wondering), but it will only go down as "the last Hellblazer (vertigo at least) run."

      As for that... other John.

Lets pretend that there aren't conflicting accounts on whether it stopped (and there are).

That he didn't still verbally and emotionally abuse Cynthia and Julian.

That there aren't also accounts of some truly jackass things when married to Yoko... though no many about physical.

That I don't think he is phony, based off of the political and spiritual people he hung around with saying he never really seemed to interested, and his son said he was a hypocrite.

And that I believe John Lennon ACTUALLY felt contrition for anything he did.

We can live in that world no until the end of time. I was raised by Baby Boomers, and surrounded by their Boomer friends my whole life.

I know that Lennon is at least a complicated subject for them. It is not worth kookiness that will follow.

We can forget LL of that until the sun burns out, I can live in that fantasy.

But, none of that would change one simple fact.

He Still. Didn't. become. A. Werewolf.

Don't think I did not notice your lack of retort to that.

    3. In the first GREENBERG THE VAMPIRE story, I suggested that Lennon might be a vampire. So we're close.

Aside from following him closely in real time when he was alive, and encountering him in the flesh on two occasions, I've read many, many books about Lennon. There have been so many exaggerations, distortions and outright lies about his life. He was not a saint (as some would have it), nor was he a demon (as others would have it), he was wonderfully, occasionally horribly, human...and incredibly honest about it. And that was reflected in his music, which remains some of my favorite music ever for that very reason.

And that's all I've got to say on that subject.

John C was married, eh? Now there's something to explore if we do further animated shows...!
