LENNON DAY

Today would have been John Lennon's 80th birthday. Forty years here, forty years gone. Astonishing—and still so very sad.

Anyone who's followed this blog (and my career) knows that Lennon remains my one true rock and roll hero. (For further proof, just read this.) His music is more alive, more vibrant, more urgent and necessary today than ever before.

Happy birthday, John.  Shine on.

  1. Just think, he was the only Beatle to not be on the Simpsons. See:

    1. I would argue that for people born between 1975 and 1980 the Simpsons ARE the Beatles. Bigger than the Beatles.

It is probably the last true cultural touchstone our society has outside of tragedy.

The important thing is, McCartney lived long enough to see his cultural relevance eclipsed by a cartoon. and be the most boring cameo of all the Beatles.

We should all be so lucky.

Just interesting how society and culture work.

By the way, and speaking of cameos...
