It's farewell to the JLU but hello to another old friend.
Ben Reilly: Spider-Man #1 is out next week (January 19th, to be precise) and I couldn't be more excited about working with David Baldeon, Israel Silva, and our editor Danny Khazem on this book. Playing in the Spiderverse again, reuniting with my old pal Ben, has been a genuine delight. Hope you all enjoy the series.

ReplyDeleteSpider-Kerouac finally gets another shot! So, if The Lost Years is On the Road, and Redemption's fighting of Kaine is the figurative mountain climbing and coming to terms with the past his Zen and thus making the work Dharma Bums, will this be more in line with Dr. Sax or Subterraneans?
Is Marvel really okay with another deep-dive into the Beat Generation, which you always seem to do when writing Ben?
I mean those backup features in Web of Spider-Man and Spider-Man family were inspire by the Kerouac haiku, which were shared at and eventually published by City Lights.
You and your Beatniks, Dematteis. I have no idea why clones automatically bring out eh Beatnik in you.

DeleteI read the preview pages, and this looks great! I will definitely be following along issue to issue. My favorite comics tend to be ones that work within the medium and its traditions to achieve something noteworthy and excellent, as opposed to ones that rely on subversion. Thanks for showing us how it's done!

DeleteP.S. In my previous comment I was referring to the crafting aspects of the medium, i.e. matters of form. Subversive *ideas* (relating to the message, or content, of the story) are a different matter, and I generally enjoy those... I was just attempting to praise the evident respect for the medium you show in this work (and in many of your works).
