AND SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS

If you've followed this site for any length of time, you know that, for me, the Christmas season doesn't begin until I hear this John & Yoko classic.  So let's get this season started!

"We hope you have fun...the near and the dear ones...the old and the young."

  1. Well Dematteis, I am sure your mind is being flooded with your quaint Brooklyn Christmases of your youth.

Walking down to the frozen lake to ice skate. Paying 3 cents for a hot sweet potato to eat on your way home, which were sold and grown by the McGilicutty family.

Going 12 miles into the woods to find the perfect tree, and cut it down as a family, each one taking a turn on the axe.

Eating turkey your father had hunted in the woods a few days before.

Looking out Christmas eve at the white, untarnished snow. lighting up the fields with moon light.

Caroling with all your neighbors from house to house, each one coming along, until the whole town is singing together in the towns square.

    the annual town wide bonfire.

Hitching a ride on the horse drawn sleighs going from one side of town to the other, sometimes carrying wood, and others couples and families getting in the season.

    Classic Christmas in Brooklyn.

Hot sweet potato sold to ice skaters.

    Jack
